MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (October 28, 2023) - The #17 St. Thomas University (STU) Women's Soccer team hosted the #18 Keiser University Seahawks on Saturday evening for the last match of the regular season. Both the Bobcats and the Seahawks entered the match with a Sun Conference record of 8-3-2, but the Bobcats would emerge victorious, winning 1-0.
As the sun was setting on the field, the first half was coming to a close. Despite each team notching a few shots, the game remained scoreless at the end of the half. Isabella Penaranda notched four saves, protecting the net from the Seahawks. Penaranda has recorded 52 saves this season, including 13 in the past week.
In the 54th minute, Gabrielle Cimino was able to find the back of the net for the Bobcats, struck with precision, finding the back of the net for the Bobcats, surging them into the lead. Cimino's outstanding performance was pivotal in the match, as she notched four shots and delivered the decisive goal. Her goal was a testament to her scoring ability and crucial to St. Thomas' victory. Leslie Deleon provided the assist that led to Cimino's goal, showcasing her vision and skills. Deleon's presence in the midfield was a key factor in St. Thomas' victory.
The Bobcats' defense was rock solid, with players like Sierra Olivo and Sarolta Oppelland ensuring that Keiser had very limited opportunities to breach their lines. They denied the Seahawks any significant shots on goal throughout the match.
