MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (October 28, 2023) - A senior day delight it was as St. Thomas Volleyball (21-2, 12-0 SUN) secured their third straight regular season crown with a 3-0 sweep of Warner, 25-16, 25-23, 25-19. It is their 16th straight victory and 14th sweep of the season. This marks the program's longest win streak, the first time in program history to win three straight Conference titles, and their eighth title overall. This secures that the Sun Conference Tournament will be held at the Fernandez Family Center November 10-11.Â
They are just the third team in STU Athletics history to win three straight titles joining Men's Soccer (2010-12) and Women's Basketball (2013-15).Â
All four seniors got to start as Maya Simmons had her libero debut. Simmons notched a career high 18 digs on the night. Hope Leavy-Gaskins also had a career high with 12 dogs, the senior also had eight kills.Â
Isadora Tavares assumed the setter role as the senior collected 31 assists, a block and three service aces. Alexandra MacAskill helped bring the momentum helping the team come from behind in a slow start to the third set. MacAskill had nine kills, two blocks, five digs, and two service aces. MacAskill now has 200 career blocks from her time plot at Adams State and St. Thomas.
The match started out with an 8-0 run by the Bobcats. STU cruised to a set one win. The next two sets, saw Warner get out early with 5-0 and 4-0 runs. Both times, the team rallied from behind and pulled away to take the set.
Amanda Allende led all attackers as the only player in double digits with 10. Allende's had a doubles double with 10 digs and also added three blocks.Â
The Bobcats tied a season high of 11 service aces. STU is at an astonishing 21-0 when winning the first set. Â
St. Thomas will close out the regular season with two matches on the road. Wednesday, November 1 at Keiser and Saturday, November 4 at Coastal Georgia.
