MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (November 14, 2023) - The St. Thomas University (STU) Women's Basketball team triumphed over the Florida National University Conquistadors in Tuesday evening's basketball match. The final score stood at 91 for the Bobcats and 74 for the Conquistadors, making the Bobcats' record 2-2 this season.
The game began with both teams displaying their skills, and the first quarter witnessed a close battle, with the Bobcats scoring 19 points, trailing the Conquistadors by four. Bria Brown showcased her scoring ability, contributing 14 points in the quarter. Ra'Nae Tumblin's presence in the paint was also evident, as she secured 9 rebounds in the first quarter alone.
The tables turned in the second quarter as St. Thomas intensified their efforts, outscoring their opponents and taking a lead into halftime. The third quarter proved to be a turning point for the Bobcats. Despite facing a tougher shooting quarter, key players like Marta Franco continued to contribute, finishing the game with 12 points, 6 assists, and 4 rebounds.
As the Bobcats entered the second half, their shooting percentages began to improve. The dynamic duo of Brooke Bogatz and Sophie Vandyke contributed significantly. Bogatz showcased her versatility with 11 points, 7 rebounds, and 3 assists, while Vandyke's performance included 10 points and 3 rebounds.
In the fourth quarter, the Conquistadors fought back, but the Bobcats maintained their composure and secured the win with 21 points in the final period. Ke'Ajia Williams and Paige McDonald stepped up, finishing the game with 19 and 13 points, respectively. Williams' double-double performance included 10 rebounds, while McDonald added 9 rebounds and 2 assists.
With this win, St. Thomas University improved their record to 2-2, while the Florida National University Conquistadors fell to 0-3.
