LAKELAND, Fla. (November 17, 2023) - The chilly evening in Lakeland, Fla. set the stage for a basketball showdown between the St. Thomas University (STU) Bobcats and the John Brown University Golden Eagles. The Bobcats ultimately defeated the Golden Eagles at The Furnace, with a final score of 76-57.  

The first quarter was a fierce battle, with both teams trading blows and ending the period in a deadlock, each scoring 21 points. John Brown showcased their scoring ability, contributing 21 points, but St. Thomas, led by Brooke Bogatz, matched every move. 

As the game progressed into the second quarter, the Bobcats started to pull ahead. Bria Brown and Marta Franco demonstrated exceptional teamwork, combining for 17 points in the quarter. The halftime score reflected St. Thomas's dominance, leading 38-31. 

The third quarter unfolded as a strategic battle, with St. Thomas maintaining their lead. Ra'Nae Tumblin and Bogatz continued to impress, extending the Bobcats' advantage.  

The fourth quarter became a showcase of St. Thomas University's strength and determination. Bogatz's six three-pointers and Brown's consistent performance contributed significantly to the Bobcats' total of 76 points. On the other side, the Golden Eagles fought hard, but the Bobcats' defense held strong. 

As the final buzzer sounded, St. Thomas University emerged victorious with a final score of 76-57. The Bobcats celebrated their hard-fought win, improving their record to 3-2 for the season.  

In the aftermath of the game, detailed statistics revealed the depth of the Bobcats' contributions. Bogatz's 25 points, including six three-pointers, showcased her scoring prowess. Brown's 14 points, combined with Franco's 11 points and seven assists, highlighted the team's versatility. Tumblin and Paige McDonald's efforts on both ends of the court were crucial, securing rebounds and contributing to the defensive effort. 

The Bobcats will face Montana Western tomorrow at 7 p.m. in Lakeland, Fla. at The Furnace.
