LAKELAND, Fla. (November 18, 2023) - The St. Thomas University (STU) Women's Basketball team took to the court on Saturday evening to face off against Montana Western. The Bobcats ultimately defeated the Bulldogs 84-74, with Brooke Bogatz leading the team and hitting a huge milestone during the game.
The first quarter set the tone for the meeting. Despite finding themselves trailing by two points at the end of it, the Bobcats came out of the gate hot in the first quarter. Brooke Bogatz, a crucial part of the Bobcats team, led the charge with an impressive 26-point performance, sinking shots from all angles. Bogatz hit a career milestone during the match up, notching the 1000th point of her career.
St. Thomas struggled to find their rhythm in quarter two, shooting at a challenging 21.43% from the field. The second quarter ended with Montana Western extending their lead. St. Thomas faced a halftime deficit but remained determined to turn the game around.
The third quarter witnessed a remarkable comeback from the Bobcats. With renewed determination, they narrowed the gap and turned the momentum in their favor. Marta Franco's leadership on the court, coupled with the sharpshooting of Paige McDonald, propelled the Bobcats to a crucial advantage. The team shot an impressive 42.11% from the field in the third quarter, signaling their resurgence.
The fourth quarter unfolded as a nail-biter, with both teams leaving everything on the court. The Bobcats showcased their best performance when it mattered the most. Ka'Ajia Williams dominated the paint, securing crucial rebounds and converting them into points.
In the end, St. Thomas emerged victorious with a final score of 84 to Montana Western's 74. This win brings the Bobcats' record to 4-2 this season.
