MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (December 9, 2023) - The (RV) St. Thomas University (STU) Women's Basketball Team faced the New College of Florida in their second meeting on Saturday afternoon. The Bobcats defeated the Mighty Banyans in the showdown, 68-35.
The game began, and St. Thomas quickly asserted their dominance. Bria Brown, Marta Franco, Brooke Bogatz, Ra'Nae Tumblin, and Sophie Vandyke took the court as the starting lineup for the Bobcats, showcasing their skills with precision and teamwork. The first quarter set the tone for St. Thomas, with Bria Brown leading the charge, sinking shots from beyond the arc and driving to the basket. New College struggled to find their rhythm, and by the end of the quarter, St. Thomas had built a substantial lead of 19-4.
As the game progressed, the Bobcats continued to showcase their offensive prowess. Marta Franco displayed her three-point shooting skills, while Brooke Bogatz demonstrated her ability to score from both inside and outside the paint. Ra'Nae Tumblin contributed on defense and effective scoring, and Sophie Vandyke dominated the boards. The halftime score reflected St. Thomas's dominance, leading 40 to 13.
Camilla Flefil and Paige McDonald came off the bench and stepped up for the Bobcats, extending their lead further in the second half. Flefil's sharpshooting from beyond the arc and McDonald's contributions added some spark to the offense. The Bobcats maintained control, entering the final quarter with a commanding lead of 60-25.
The fourth quarter saw a valiant effort from New College, as they fought to narrow the gap. However, the Bobcats maintained their defensive intensity, limiting New College's scoring opportunities. St. Thomas ultimately secured the victory with a final score of 68-35.
Bria Brown led the Bobcats in scoring with 17 points, supported by strong performances from Marta Franco, Brooke Bogatz, and the rest of the team. The victory marked another success for the St. Thomas University Bobcats, who celebrated their 6-2 record.
Up next the Bobcats will host a match up against Fort Lauderdale. The game will take place on Wednesday, December 13th at 5 p.m. in the Fernandez Family Center.
