McDonald's Double Double Leads Bobcats to Midland Victory

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (December 20, 2023) - The St. Thomas University (STU) Women's Basketball team competed in their first game of the Cruzin' Classic on Wednesday evening, leaving the court with a hard-earned victory against Midland University. The Bobcats defeated the Warriors in the matchup, 57-48.

The first quarter saw Brooke Bogatz leading the charge, putting six points on the board, contributing to her total of 18. Ra'Nae Tumblin put up four rebounds for the Bobcats in the first quarter, showcasing the Bobcats' defensive skills. St. Thomas led against Midland 14-7 at the end of the first quarter.

The Warriors outscored the Bobcats in quarter two, putting up 14 points to the Bobcats' five. Paige McDonald notched three rebounds in the second quarter, contributing to her double-double performance of 16 points and 10 rebounds. The Bobcats entered the intermission down by two points, 19-21. 

The Bobcats continued the fight into the second half. In quarter three, St. Thomas recorded 16 points, six of which were recorded by Bogatz. Bogatz also showcased her defensive abilities with three rebounds in the third quarter. Camilla Flefil also put up three rebounds.

The final quarter showcased the Bobcats' determination, shooting over 50% from the field and maintaining a perfect record at the free-throw line. The team's largest lead, a 12-point advantage in the fourth quarter, showcased their ability to pull away when it mattered most. McDonald recorded 12 points and four rebounds in the final quarter of the game, followed by Bogatz who put up another six. Marta Franco secured the win with two success free throws, putting her total for the match up at eight points. 

The Bobcats emerged victorious against the Warriors, defeating them 57-48. This win brings their record to 9-2. 

Up next, the Bobcats will face Dakota Wesleyan University on Thursday, December 21st at 4 p.m. at the Fernandez Family Center for their second game of the Cruzin' Classic.
