Strong Effort Propels #8 Baseball to Opening Day Victory Over #25 Seahawks

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (January 31, 2023)- The St. Thomas University (STU) #8 Baseball team picked up the opening day win against #25 Keiser University. The Bobcats got it done scoring twelve runs on eight hits. Crosby Bringhurst earns the win on the mound, throwing three innings allowing two hits, with two strikeouts.

Game Notes

  • With nothing much happening in the first, the pinch runner Matt Granato scored the first run after the Bobcats loaded the bases from walks and Seahawk errors.
  • Two more runs would score in the bottom of the second the same way, by walks and more Keiser errors, 3-0 STU.
  • Keeping the Seahawks scoreless, the Bobcats would get three more in the bottom of the third. The first two would be from the bat of Alan Caretta who singled to left field, and the third coming from Jose Rangel reaching first on a fielder's choice allowing a run to come across.
  • Keiser made it a game in the top of the first scoring four times. The Bobcats responded with a run of their own after Omar Baldo hit a double off an error in the outfield, bringing in Kevin Moreno.
  • The Seahawks made it a one run game, hitting a two-run homerun in the top of the sixth. STU responded with three runs, the first with Rey Hernandez doubling to left center field, and the next two from Angelo Piloto knocking one to left field, doubling, and bringing in two runs. 10-6 Bobcats.
  • Keiser scored one in the top of the seventh, but STU responded once again in a big way with two more runs. Brian Garcia got a hold of one, roping it to the outfield for a triple and an RBI. The second run scored was Robin Fernandez grounding out to second, but giving Jose Rangel enough time to cross the plate.
  • The Seahawks would score once more, but it was little too late, and the Bobcats walked away with the opening day win 12-8.
