AUBURNDALE, Fla. (March 4, 2023)- The St. Thomas University Baseball team defeated the #5 Bellevue Bruins in game one of the three game series. The Bobcats got to work early in this one, and never looked back.

After a quiet first inning from both sides, the Bobcats came out in the top of the second with some meaning behind their swings. Chris Schoeller got it started by drawing a walk. Right after,
Brian Garcia singled to right field. After a double play,
Robin Fernandez drew another walk, and
Angelo Piloto stepped into the box and knocked one to center field, scoring Chris Schoeller on third. An error by the Bruins would allow
Edward Mateo to advance to first, and
Robin Fernandez to score.
Omar Baldo would also reach first on an error, which also scored
Angelo Piloto.
Joey Thompson ended the onslaught in the second, giving STU a 5-0 lead with a single, scoring
Edward Mateo and
Matt Granato.
Â
Bellevue responded in the bottom of the second with a run of their own making it 5-1. The Bobcats slowed down a little in the third, allowing the Bruins to add on two more runs to make it 5-3. After another quiet inning on offense for STU, Bellevue went on to tie it up in the bottom of the fourth inning. The Bobcats made up for the few quiet innings adding five more in the top of the fifth. Chris Schoeller got the rally started once again, this time doubling to left field.
Brian Garcia stepped up and singled to right field, and the Bruin pitcher would try and do too much and make an error allowing Chris Schoeller to come across the plate.
Kevin Moreno stepped into the box and opened the flood gates, drilling one to left field. The Bobcats weren't done yet as
Robin Fernandez singled to right field to keep it going.
Edward Mateo slapped one to right field allowing
Robin Fernandez to score from second. To end the inning,
Joey Thompson stayed hot, and hit one over to right field, driving in
Edward Mateo. 10-5.
Â
The Bobcats started the top of the sixth with Chris Schoeller getting hit by a pitch, and
Brian Garcia picking up another base hit. Pinch runner
Lucas Lopez advanced and scored off a wild pitch, and
Brian Garcia would do the same the next batter. 12-5 Bobcats. The remainder of the game the STU pitchers held strong only allowing one more run to cross. The Bobcats picked up a 12-6 win over the #5 team in the Nation. Â
