MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (April 20, 2023)- The St. Thomas University (STU) baseball team picked up a midweek victory over the University of Fort Lauderdale Eagles.
Alejandro Calalpa earned the victory on the mound for the Bobcats, getting 6 K's and only allowing two hits, in three innings of work.

STU got the party started in the second inning when Eduard Mateo doubled, driving in
Rey Hernandez and
Kendry Noriega for an early 2-0 lead. Staying in the second,
Brian Garcia kept it going with a single to right field which brought Mateo around from second. 3-0 Bobcats. After Calalpa shut the Eagles down, in the bottom of the third STU picked up three more runs. The Bobcats loaded the bases, and
Rey Hernandez drew a walk which brought
Angelo Piloto across to make it 4-0. Danny Rodriguez would step in the box, hitting a double to left to drive in
Kendry Noriega and
Kevin Moreno making it 6-0.

Moving on to the bottom of the fourth,
Angelo Piloto stepped up to the plate and roped one to right center which allowed Chris Schoeller to score from first, 7-0. Still in the fourth,
Kevin Moreno was able to knock one to the short stop for a single, scoring
Angelo Piloto making it 8-0. Another shut out inning for the Bobcats in the fifth and sixth,
Rey Hernandez hit a solo shot that hit the scoreboard in left to extend the lead to 9-0.

In the top of the seventh the Eagles were able to put three runs on the board to make it 9-3. In the bottom of the seventh STU added more insurance getting two runs across. On a failed pickoff attempt by the Eagles pitcher, Eduard Mateo was able to make his way home to make it 10-3. Also in the seventh, Chris Schoeller put the ball in play but was out at first, but not before
Lucas Lopez scored from third to go up eight runs. The last run scored by both sides would be by STU when
Rey Hernandez reached on an error by the shortstop, and
Kendry Noriega reach home. Final score Bobcats 12 Eagles 3. Â
