Sun Conference Sweep of the Royals Leaves All Eyes on Last Series Before Post Season

LAKE WALES, Fla. (April 24, 2023)- The St. Thomas University Baseball team defeated the Warner Royals in all three games of the series. With one more Sun Conference series remaining against Keiser, the Bobcats are coming on strong nearing the end of the regular season.
 
Game One
  • The Bobcats got going early, Joey Thompson knocked a double to left field and picked up two RBI's in the top of the second. 2-0 STU
  • In the top of the third, Chris Schoeller singled which drove in Pablo Delgado who courtesy ran for Omar Baldo. 3-0 STU
  • Angelo Piloto stepped into the box and made it 5-0 with a deep home run to right, bringing in Chris Schoeller.
  • The bottom of the fifth inning, the Royals fought back and tied the game up at 5.
  • Moving to the bottom of the sixth, Warner went on to take a 7-5 lead.
  • Brian Garcia brought it to within one in the top of the seventh with a solo shot.
  • With their backs against the wall in the ninth, Omar Baldo singled which allowed Joey Thompson to come across to tie it at 7.
  • Chris Schoeller gave the lead back to STU with back to back singles. 8-7 STU
  • Robin Fernandez added some insurance with a sac fly that was able to give Omar Baldo enough time to score. 9-7 STU
  • The Royals picked up a run in the bottom of the ninth to make it 9-8, but a throw from Kendry Noriega to Omar Baldo for a play at the plate would end it.
Game Two
  • Warner jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the first.
  • In the top of the third Omar Baldo singled that drove in Brian Garcia.
  • Kendry Noriega gave the Bobcats a 2-1 lead with a homer in the fourth.
  • The Royals tied it in the bottom of the fourth at 2.
  • Warner went on a scoring outburst in the fifth and took an 8-2 lead.
  • Angelo Piloto made it 8-3 in the sixth with yet another home run.
  • The Royals added another in the bottom of the sixth to go up by 6.
  • Never giving up, Omar Baldo hit a single the scored Lucas Lopez in the seventh.
  • Also in the seventh Angelo Piloto hit a sac fly the brought in Pablo Delgado to make it 9-5.
  • The Royals made it 11-5 in the bottom of the seventh.
  • With the bases loaded in the eighth Angelo Piloto walked which brought in Lucas Lopez. 11-6
  • In the top of the ninth the Bobcats did the impossible. Joey Thompson got it started reaching on an error, and Kendry Noriega scored. 11-7.
  • Brian Garcia stepped up, hitting a single that was able to get Joey Thompson across. 11-8
  • Omar Baldo kept it going, singling to left field driving in Lucas Lopez. 11-9.
  • Not done yet, Kevin Moreno singled again for STU that brought Brian Garcia all the way around, and STU was down one.
  • Omar Baldo tied it at 11 after scoring from third on a passed ball.
  • The Bobcats went on an outburst in the tenth inning. Lucas Lopez hit a sac fly which scored Alan Caretta.
  • Brian Garcia then blasted one for a two run homerun to make it 14-11.
  • A lot would happen which would load the bases. Kendry Noriega then singled which brought Pablo Delgado and Chris Schoeller in to score. 16-11 STU
  • Alan Caretta came up again in the tenth, doubling down the right field line, bringing in Kendry Noriega and Eduard Mateo. 18-11 STU.
  • The Royals made an attempt to come back in the bottom of the tenth, but the Bobcats would walk away with the 18-16 victory.
Game Three
  • The Bobcats open the scoring in the top of the second when Joey Thompson hit a single to right center which brought home Robin Fernandez to make it 1-0.
  • Alan Caretta was able to score to make it 2-0 on a double steal which the catcher threw Joey Thompson out at second.
  • In the bottom of the second the Royals came to within 1.
  • Warner tied it up in the bottom of the third with 2 a piece.
  • In the bottom of the fourth the Royals scored 2 to make it 4-2.
  • In the fifth the Bobcats took the lead, in which Kendry Noriega doubled to center field which brought Eduard Mateo around to score.
  • Chris Schoeller was able to put the ball in play grounding out to the short stop but Brian Garcia had enough to come across the plate to tie it up.
  • Kevin Moreno then stepped into the box doubling to center field scoring Kendry Noriega from third 5-4 Bobcats.
  • The Royals would not back down however scoring 2 in the bottom of the fifth to take the lead 7-5.
  • Alan Caretta was on it in this one hitting a homerun to get the Bobcats to within 1 in the top of the sixth.
  • Staying in the sixth Lucas Lopez knocked a single to left field which allowed Joey Thompson who tripled in an earlier at bat to tie it up at 7.
  • In the top of the eighth the Bobcats took the lead as Joey Thompson jacked one over the wall.
  • Also in the eighth with the bases loaded Kevin Moreno drew a walk to bring Lucas Lopez home from third 9-7 STU.
  • In the top of the ninth the Bobcats poured it on adding four more insurance runs to take a 13-7 lead.
  • The Royals made it close in the bottom of the ninth scoring 3 but the Bobcats would take the series sweep and the game three victory 13-10.
