MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (April 28, 2023)- The St. Thomas University (STU) Baseball team defeated the Keiser University Seahawks in game one, senior night, and the final series of the regular season. Angelo Piloto had a great night at the dish, going four for four, five RBI's, and two home runs. Â
After a quiet first half inning from Keiser, the Bobcats put three up in the bottom of the first. Angelo Piloto drilled a homerun to center field that nearly hit New Hall, that drove in Brian Garcia who doubled, and Kendry Noriega who singled. 3-0 STU.Â
Just as it was looking like the Bobcats were off to a hot start, the Seahawks put up six runs in the top of the second to take the lead 6-3. Not being held back, Rey Hernandez got it started for the Bobcats in the bottom of the second, hitting a solo shot to left field to make it a two-score game.Â
The Bobcats weren't done yet in the second. Lucas Lopez reached first on catcher's interference, and would steal second one pitch later. With Lopez in scoring position, Brian Garcia singled to center field, that brought Lopez all the way around to be one away from tying the game. Kendry Noriega roped a double down the left field line that allowed Brian Garcia to come around and tie the game at six. A batter later, Angelo Piloto hit his second homerun of the night to go up two 8-6 STU.Â
Chase Chatman went three up and three down in the top of the third, that led to another run being scored the next inning for STU. Lucas Lopez singled that brought courtesy runner Eduard Mateo all the way home to give the Bobcats a 9-6 lead. Â
In the bottom of the fourth the Bobcats had another scoring outburst. Kendry Noriega led off the inning with a drive over the left field wall. A few batters later, Robin Fernandz hit a double to right field that scored Angelo Piloto who hit a double that was nearly his third homerun of the game. 11-6 STU. Omar Baldo kept it going, knocking a single to left field that brought Robin Fernandez home from third to make it 12-6 in the fourth.Â
The Seahawks added one more in the top of the fifth to make it 12-7. Just when you thought the offense would die down for STU, Chris Schoeller stepped in the box with two runners on in the bottom of the fifth, and demolished one that hit the right part of the scoreboard in left center to give the Bobcats a 15-7 advantage. Â
And finally, a Brian Garcia homerun to right center that scored Joey Thompson in the bottom of the sixth, would give the Bobcats the victory via mercy rule in the seventh and final inning of this one. 17-7 Bobcats.Â
