Softball Sets New Single Season Wins Record

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (April 28, 2023) - This Friday evening will be remembered for ages to come as the St. Thomas University (STU) Softball team (32-15, 13-9 SUN) has won their 32nd game this season on Senior Night, making it the most wins in a single season in program history. The Bobcats defeated Florida Memorial University in game one of the three game regular season series finale 4-0.

Prior to game, seven seniors were honored for senior day and each made an appearance in the game besides team manager Maya Villeneuve. Abbigail Smith, Nicky Heisler, Haley Smith, Maria Barranco, Marla Lavado, and Sarah Descheene were among those honored.

St. Thomas got on the board in the bottom of the first thanks to a two-run shot off the bat from Jade Fayad over the left field fence. The Bobcats then extended on their lead with two more runs in the bottom of the fourth to solidify their 4-0 lead.

Kaitlin Spalding got the start in the circle for St. Thomas throwing five innings allowing just eight hits, no runs, and striking out four. Spalding picks up her 12th win of the season tying teammate Abbigail Smith for the team lead. Smith came into relief for two innings and gave up just a hit and walk while picking up a strikeout.

The two teams will be back for a double-header tomorrow with game one starting at 12 p.m. to close out the regular season.
