MIAMI, Fla. (August 26, 2023) - St. Thomas University (STU) Men's Soccer opened the 2023 season top taking down Florida National University (FNU) 3-2 on the road Saturday evening.

St. Thomas scored early as Tomas Persico netted the first goal of the season in the sixth minute. The Bobcats would take a 2-0ead into the half as Guido Cacciabue picked up where he left off and scored in the 24th minute.

Florida National was able to cut the lead in half in the 69th minute off a penalty kick. Osaghae Oghogho quickly cut the momentum scoring nearly a minute later for insurance and regain a two-goal lead.

The Conquistadors struck late in the 83rd minute to try and keep hopes alive, but in the end the Bobcats we able to hold and take the season opening victory. 

Franco Acerbi picked up his first win in the season in net while adding five saves on seven shots faced.

STU will be back in action next Friday, September 1 as they host Lindsey Wilson in a rematch of the final site opening match last season.
