(RV) Women’s Soccer Dominates in Sun Conference Opener

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (September 13, 2023) -- After an hour of lightning delays, the receiving votes St. Thomas University (STU) Women's Soccer Team (4-0-0, 1-0-0 SUN) took to the field for their Sun Conference season opener against Webber International University (1-3-0, 0-1-0 SUN), defeating them 4-0.

The Bobcats took control of the field in the first half, recording 10 shots in the first 30 minutes of the match. Gabrielle Cimino, who has been leading the Bobcats in shots for the season, was making her mark on the field, recording three of the first 10 shots.

Forward Alexandra Santiago entered the game just seconds after the 30-minute mark and two minutes later she had the Bobcats on the board. After receiving a pass from Claudia Rodriguez, Santiago found her footing and scored her first goal of the season, putting STU up 1-0.

Less than two minutes later, midfielder Natalie Haldeman found her own success near the net. Haldeman gathered the ball and sent it towards the goal, causing a frenzy and ultimately leading a Webber defender to knock the ball into the net, putting the Bobcats up 2-0.

Moments into the second half, STU established dominance with another goal. 44 seconds after the clock started, defender Bryanna Alzate made her way up the field to score her second goal of the season, putting the Bobcats up 3-0.

St. Thomas kept their guard up for the duration of the match, allowing only three shots from Webber in the second half. The Bobcats kept the fire alive up until the whistle, scoring their final goal with two seconds to spare. Midfielder Leenah Bigby entered the match with 17 minutes left, and scored her first career goal off a deflection from the keeper from Alexandra Acevado's cross into the box moments before the clock ran out.

The Bobcats finished out the match up 4-0, defeating the Warriors under the lights of AutoNation Field and keeping their undefeated streak alive.

The Bobcats will head to Lake Wales, Fla. for their next match on Saturday, September 16th at 7 p.m. against Warner University.
