LAKE WALES, Fla. (September 16, 2023) - The St. Thomas University (STU) Women's Soccer Team traveled to Lake Wales, Fla. to compete against Warner University for their second conference match of the season. The Bobcats faced the Royals under the lights on Saturday, finishing the match in a tie with a final score of 1-1.
The Bobcats came out of the gate hot, recording four shots and a corner within the first eight minutes of the game. STU kept the momentum in the first half, notching 10 shots in total and allowing only allowing four shots from the opponents. The match was scoreless as the clock ran out for the first half.
Claudia Rodriguez put the Bobcats on the board just six minutes into the second half, scoring her first goal of the season, putting the Bobcats in the lead, 1-0. Gabrielle Cimino, who has been leading St. Thomas in shots this season, was able to cross the ball to Rodriguez in one touch, putting her the perfect position to score.
Nayelis Gil recorded seven saves during the matchup against Warner, but the Royals were able to get one through, responding in the 64th minute with a goal of their own, tying the score 1-1. Despite multiple shots and three more corners following their goal, the Bobcats were unable to take the lead, ending the match in a draw, remaining unbeaten and bringing their overall record to 4-0-1.
The Bobcats will head to Lakeland, Fla. to face Southeastern University on the road on Wednesday, September 20th at 7 p.m.
