MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (September 23, 2023) - After a week on the road, the St. Thomas University (STU) Women's Soccer Team took to AutoNation Field on Saturday evening to host the Battle of Miami Gardens against Florida Memorial University. The Bobcats defeated the Lions 2-0, bringing their overall record to 5-0-2.
The Bobcats were prepared for battle, coming into the match ready to defeat the Lions. Forward Gabrielle Cimino, who has been leading the team in shots this season, got the first shot off just 33 seconds into the game. The Bobcats notched 13 shots and three corners in the first half and did not allow the Lions to get a single shot off.
The Bobcats continued to dominate on the field as they kicked off the second half, recording 18 shots and three more corners. Claudia Rodriguez scored in the 56th minute of the match off a cross from Yasmeen McFayden. This is Rodriguez' second goal of the season, putting her on the leaderboard alongside Gabrielle Cimino and Bryanna Alzate, each with two goals this season.
Defender Kiana Better entered the game in the 79th minute and went on to score the second goal of the game with just three minutes to spare, securing the win for the Bobcats. This was her first goal of the season as well as her first career goal. The Bobcats closed out the match with two points on the board, beating the Lions 2-0, bringing their overall record to 5-0-2 and their conference record to 2-0-2.
The Bobcats will host #12 SCAD-Savannah at AutoNation Field on Thursday, September 28th, at 7 p.m.
