MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (September 28, 2023) - The #25 St. Thomas University (STU) Women's Soccer team fell to #8 SCAD-Savannah University at home on Thursday evening. The Bobcats took charge on the field with 21 total shots but were unable to finish.
St. Thomas started the match strong with two shots in the first five minutes. The Bobcats' defense was able to hold the Bees to four shots in the first half. Ines Sommer of SCAD-Savannah scored in the 22nd minute of the matchup off an assist from Abigail Siddall to put the Bees up 1-0.
The Bobcats turned it up a notch in the second half, recording 16 shots and keeping the momentum on defense. St. Thomas only allowed four shots from the Bees in the second half, Isabella Penaranda picking up four saves during the match. Gabrielle Cimino recorded six shots, including a penalty shot in the 81st minute. This match puts Cimino at 31 shots this season followed by Forward Claudia Rodriguez with 19. Rodriguez notched five shots against the Bees, three of which were shots on goal.
In the 71st minute of the match, the Bees were awarded a penalty kick. Lane Lieberman took the shot for the Bees and was able to sneak it past Penaranda to put SCAD up by two. The Bobcats fought for all 90 minutes of the match, but the game concluded with the Bees up 2-0. This marks the first loss for the Bobcats, bringing their overall record to 5-1-2 and their conference record to 2-1-2.
The Bobcats will head to West Palm Beach, Fla. on Saturday, September 28th at Noon to face #11 Keiser University.
