BABSON PARK, Fla. (September 30, 2023) - Sun Conference Football is here and the No. 17 St. Thomas University (STU) Football team (3-2, 1-0) came to play in the conference opener. The Bobcats dominated in all facets on their way to taking down Webber International University on the road 41-16 on Saturday afternoon.
The first quarter was all STU scoring on three of the four offensive drives. The first drive took three plays in 53 seconds to march down 85-yards and get the first score of the game. Khalitri Zow had the big play with a 75-yard reception to put STU at 1st and goal. C'quan Jnopierre had his first touchdown of the game on the five yard rush to punch it through on the next play.
The defense then came out and forced a three and out in the next Webber drive. St. Thomas offense took advantage in the next drive and scored on seven plays going 49-yards. David Hayes had his first touchdown of the game with a 27-yard receptions through the middle.
The Bobcat defense had another successful outing as Kendall Wilson II picked up a deflected pass for his first interception on the year and took it back 18-yards.
Caleb Walker had a big play on special teams blocking the Warriors point after attempt to keep them at six.
The final drive of the quarter was highlighted by a 67-yard connection between Jnopierre and Keely Watson to punch one more in the first 15 minutes. This was Jnopierre's second touchdown of the afternoon.
The second quarter was a little slower than the first. Hayes sparked some energy into the sideline before the half ended with a 70-yard catch on the third play of the drive to extend the lead to 28-13 heading into halftime.
Quarter number three started just like number one, a Bobcat score. Alejandro Prado added three points with a 35-yard field goal on the opening drive. Nicholas Engler then got a sack on third down to force a Warrior three and out.
Omilio Savage tacked on the defensive fun with an interception of his own picking it after a pass deflection. There would be no more scoring in the third besides the Prado field goal.
The fourth quarter had Prado hitting another field goal, this one good from 28-yards, this extends the score to 34-16. Nathan Pierre forced a strip sack that landed the ball into the hands of Engler who took it 67-yards into the end zone to close out the game for good at 41-16.
St. Thomas will hit the road for the final time before heading home to close out a five game road stint at Keiser next Saturday. Kickoff is set at 6 p.m. in West Palm Beach.
