Dominance Continues, No. 24 Volleyball Rolls Past the Royals

LAKE WALES, Fla. (September 30, 2023) - No. 24 St. Thomas University (STU) Women's Volleyball (14-2, 5-0 SUN) picked up their ninth straight victory against Warner University. The Bobcats swept the Royals in three straight sets 25-15, 25-18, 25-23, on Saturday evening in the Turner Athletic Center. 

This is the seventh sweep in the last nine matches as STU holds a 27-2 advantage in set wins during this span. 

Amanda Allende led the way in kills for the 10th time this season with 11. It's the 12th time she's had double figures.m and fifth double double adding 13 digs. Allende was the only player with double digit kills in the match in both sides.

Payton Bertke came out hot after missing two matches this week and had 37-assists in her setting duties. This is Bertie's ninth 30-plus assists outing this season, only one has been below 20.

Bianca Grassi led the defense with 19 digs. Grassi was one of three in double figures joined by Allende's 13 and Alexandra MacAskill getting 10.

Tayla Barnes has three blocks to go along with her right kills. Sana Dennis added to the offensive party with nine kills of her own and messing with a .600 attacking percentage. 

MacAskill and Alexandra Bruno had eight and seven kills, respectively.

St. Thomas jumped out hit per usual with a .333 hitting percentage and just two errors with four service aces to take a dominant set one. The Bobcats are 14-0 when winning the first set. 

Despite hitting sub .200 the next two sets, the defense was able to hold the Royals to a .000 hitting percentage.

Set three had the Bobcats battle back from two different deficits being down four points. After a 23-23 tie, MacAskill was able to put it away with the final kill.

St. Thomas will have a two home match stint next week for the first time this season. The Bobcats will only gave Sun an inference action from here on on out with Keiser on Wednesday at 7 p.m. and Coastal Georgia on Saturday at 2 p.m.
