MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (September 30, 2023)- The St. Thomas University (STU) Men's Soccer team defeated the #15 Keiser Seahawks at home for their 8
th win of the season. Two goals by
Tomas Persico, and
Franco Acerbi's 5 saves, kept the #3 Bobcats undefeated on the season.
Â
The game was conservative to start from both sides, without a shot by either side until about the seven minute mark when
Angelo Bernandes' shot went just wide. Not long after STU kept the pressure on with another shot this time by Mark Oghogho that went a little high. Around half way through the first half the Bobcats were getting quality chances.
Guido Cacciabue let one go that had to put the Seahawk keeper to work.
Â
At the 27 minute mark in the opening half, Mark Oghogho got the ball to
Tomas Persico who made no mistakes for the first goal of the match. Keiser picked up the pace of play a little getting a few shots and a corner that amounted to nothing. With the STU defense playing strong keeping everything in front of them, the Seahawks had some work to do in the second half.
Â
With the weather holding off after some scares, the second half got started with both teams playing hard which led to a yellow card to the Bobcats. One of the best chances for Keiser came directly after the card, but Acerbi kept them off the board. After a few Bobcat substitutions with new energy, the STU offense marched down the field again, and
Angelo Bernandes fed who else but
Tomas Persico for his second and games final goal.
Â
Defense was the name of the game the rest of the way for the Bobcats, as the Seahawks were only able to get four more shots off the rest of the game and only two on the net. The Bobcats would win 2-0 and all eyes shift to Ave Maria next week.
