MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (January 8, 2024) - The St. Thomas University (STU) Track and Field team will be participating in their first meet of the Indoor season this Friday, January 12th, in Gainesville, Fla. at the Jimmy Carnes Invitational. This meet will kick off the Bobcats' Inaugural Indoor season under Coach Joey Scott.
There will be 43 Bobcats participating in the Jimmy Carnes Invitational, with 14 competitors from the women's team and 29 competitors from the men's team. Maurice Daniels, Isaac Joseph, and Bradley Bowlin all return to the track after a successful 2023 Outdoor season. Daniels, Joseph, and Bowlin placed in the Top 10 during the 100m race at the 2023 Sun Conference Championships, earning them a spot in the 2023 NAIA Track and Field National Championship. The three returning Bobcats and former Bobcat Colton Weismore competed in the 4x100m Relay as well as individual events on the national stage. Joseph competed in the 200m and 100m races, placing in 27th and 14th. Bowlin competed alongside Joseph in the 100m, finishing in 19th place.
Roger Reyes, who took a trip to the NAIA Cross Country National Championship in the fall, will be returning for this Indoor Track and Field Season. Reyes will be competing in the 3000m, 4x400m, and the 1 mile race. A few more members of the 2023 STU Men's Cross-Country team will return alongside Reyes, including Alain Bermudez, Jamari Benjamin, and Jabes Jimenez.
Freshman Isabella Marty will also participate in the Bobcats' Indoor Track and Field season after a successful fall season competing with the Women's Cross-Country team. Marty will compete in the 1 mile race and the 3000m in Gainesville. Emily Holzer will join Marty in the 3000m while other returners like Wislande Pierre-Louis and Christian Pommells will compete in different events. Holzer and Pierre-Louis also competed in the 2023 Sun Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships, Holzer finishing in 6th place for the 5000m Finals and Pierre-Louis finishing 6th place in the 400m Finals. Pommells also participated in the Sun Conference Championship, competing in Women's Javelin, finishing in 6th place.
After their trip to Gainesville, the Bobcats will return to South Florida for the South Florida Youth Showcase at Tropical Park in Miami, Fla.
