Opening Day Slugfest Leads to Victory Over Montreat for (RV) Bobcats

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (January 25, 2024) – The St. Thomas University (STU) Baseball team started the season off with an 11-6 victory over Montreat on opening day. The Bobcats hit multiple homeruns and five hitters with double-digit hits. The starter on the mound Juan Polo went three innings, striking out six, and gave up one hit.
 
Bottom 2nd
  • In the bottom of the second inning, Erick Delgado hit a sacrifice fly to center field which brought home Christopher Estrada who previously drew a walk. 1-0 Bobcats
  • Staying in the bottom of the second, Matt Granato reach on an error by the short stop that scored two. 3-0 Bobcats
  • With the bases loaded Chris Schoeller had a solid at bat, and reached first with a walk that brought in a run. 4-0 Bobcats
  • The final scoring in the bottom of the second was Kendry Noriega beating out the double play attempt, scoring Matt Granato. 5-0 Bobcats
Top 3rd
  • Montreat was able to get two runs on the board, with a sac fly and a walk with the bases juiced. 5-2 Bobcats
Top 5th
  • With the STU bats slowing down a bit, the Cavaliers were able to time the game up in the 5th inning with a single followed by a homer. 5-5 all
Bottom 6th
  • Kendry Noriega got the party started, hitting a double to left center scoring Chris Schoeller. 6-5 Bobcats
  • Right behind was Angelo Piloto who put a charge into one to left field over the batting cages, which brought in Noriega on second. 8-5 Bobcats
  • Much would ensue, but Erick Delgado stepped in the box and hit a single to left field bringing in Christopher Estrada. 9-5 Bobcats
  • Lucas Lopez came up right after and hit a single himself, which brought Robin Fernandez around the bases. 10-5 Bobcats
Top 7th
  • The Cavaliers added another run on a passed ball. 10-6 Bobcats
Bottom 7th
  • Kendry Noriega capped off a good opening day for STU with an absolute rocket to left field to give the Bobcats the 11-6 victory.
