Hot Bats Lead to Two More Victories Over the Cavaliers

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (January 26, 2024) – The St. Thomas University (STU) Baseball team picked up two more wins against Montreat today outscoring the Cavaliers by a combined 25 to 3. In game one today, Chase Chatman started on the mound for the Bobcats going five innings. Chatman got two strikeouts and gave up two hits. Carlos Polanco started the second game of the day, and he went five innings with five strikeouts, four hits, and no runs.
 
Game One
Bottom 3rd
  • Kendry Noriega got the party started in the bottom of third, smashing one to left field for his second homerun in two games. Bobcats 1-0
Bottom 5th
  • After the Cavaliers tied the game at one in the top of the fourth, Chris Schoeller came up in the bottom of the fifth and knocked a single to center to score Lucas Lopez. Bobcats 2-1
  • With Noriega and Schoeller at first and second, Angelo Piloto came to the plate and put a charge into one to left field. Bobcats 5-1
  • Luis Rodriguez stepped into the box right after and hit another homer to the same area code in left to extend the Bobcats lead midway through. Bobcats 6-1
  • Not done yet in the fifth, Donavan Hill hit one of the way a few batters later, bringing Robin Fernandez in to score. Bobcats 7-1
Bottom 6th
  • The STU batters were not done in this game and added six more in the sixth.
  • Angelo Piloto got the scoring started when he drove in two runners with a single to right. Bobcats 9-1.
  • Robin Fernandez kept it going, getting a hold of one and getting it to go over the wall down the right field line. Bobcats 11-1
  • With the bases loaded Matt Granato drew a walk to score another. Bobcats 12-1
  • The last run scored by the Bobcats in game one of the double header would be Yardielo Oneil reaching first on an error by the short stop, and Alan Caretta was able to reach home to make it 13-1.

  • The Bobcats stayed hot, and in the first were able to get some base runners on with a walk by Granato and a single by Noriega. A bad pickoff attempt allowed Matt Granato to give STU the early 1-0 lead.
  • After another error by a Cavalier defender, Angelo Piloto reach first, and Noriega was able to come home this time. Bobcats 2-0
  • Catcher Luis Rodriguez kept the inning alive with a double to left center, bringing in Angelo Piloto. Bobcats 3-0
  • The final run scored for the Bobcats in the first would be Alan Caretta knocking one through the left side, scoring Rodriguez. Bobcats 4-0
Bottom 3rd
  • Yardielo Oneil dug in and got a piece of one for a single to right field, allowing Robin Fernandez and Luis Rodriguez around the bags. Bobcats 6-0
Bottom 4th Bottom 8th
  • The Cavaliers were able to grab two runs in two innings but the Bobcats called game in the eighth.
  • Chris Schoeller started the scoring with a signature double to left field, scoring Matt Granato. Bobcats 9-2
  • On a wild pitch, Kendry Noriega advanced to third and Chris Scholler was able to come across home plate. Bobcats 10-2
  • Alan Caretta stepped up again getting his third straight hit, this time another single to right, which scored Noriega. Bobcats 11-2
  • The ballgame would end by an error by the Cavalier second baseman that allowed Rodriguez to cross the plate. Bobcats 12-2
