MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (January 3, 2024) - The St. Thomas University (STU) Women's Basketball team dominated against the University of Fort Lauderdale on Wednesday evening. The Bobcats had five players with double digits, leading to their 96-52 win over the Eagles.
The Bobcats came out of the gate hot against Fort Lauderdale, Scoring 19 points in the first quarter. Sophie Vandyke started in the matchup and notched six points and four rebounds, contributing to her double-double performance of 10 points and 14 rebounds. St. Thomas had 23 rebounds in the first quarter alone, six of which were recorded by Bria Brown. The Bobcats held the score to 19-7 at the end of the first 10 minutes.
In the second quarter, the Bobcats continued to shine. Ra'Nae Tumblin put up seven points, contributing to her leading 17-point total during the game. Brooke Bogatz also showed her determination, putting up six points of her own. The Bobcats put up 31 points in quarter two, up 50-22 as they entered halftime.
St. Thomas kept the lead throughout the second half, putting up 21 more points in quarter three. Vandyke notched 6 more rebounds while Marta Franco put up five points in favor of the Bobcats. Bogatz recorded four more points, contributing to her total of 12 points while also recording four assists. The Bobcats were up 71-38 as they entered the final quarter.
The Bobcats remained on the prowl in the final quarter, recording 25 more points. Paige McDonald secured her own double-double performance, notching eight points in quarter four and six rebounds, bringing her total for the match up to 14 points and 14 rebounds. Mariah McKenzie put up four points in the fourth quarter, contributing to her total of 12 points. The Bobcats emerged victorious against the Eagles, defeating them 96-52. This win brings their record to 10-3 as they enter Sun Conference play.
Next up, the Bobcats will face the College of Coastal Georgia on the road for their Sun Conference season opener. The game will take place on Saturday, January 6th at 2 p.m. in Brunswick, Ga.
