(RV) Women's Soccer Falls to Fire in Lakeland

LAKELAND, Fla. (October 16, 2024) - The (RV) St. Thomas University (STU) Women's Soccer team hit the road on Wednesday to face off against Southeastern University for their first match up of the season. The highly anticipated match saw the Bobcats falling, despite their attempts to mount a comeback, 1-2 against the Fire.

In the opening minutes, Southeastern took control when Madelyn Davidson received an assist from Rebecca Laface, netting the first goal just under five minutes into the game. The Bobcats tried to find the equalizer, putting up nine shots in the first half. The half ended with the Bobcats trailing, but they showed determination to make a comeback in the second half.

However, Southeastern continued their momentum as Madelyn Davidson struck again, this time assisted by Ariadna Lozano, extending their lead to 2-0 early in the second half. Despite the Fire extending the lead, the Bobcats didn't let their heads drop. In the 72nd minute, the breakthrough finally came for STU. Emily Rodriguez received an assist from Skylar Monroe. The goal gave St. Thomas a lifeline, energizing the team as they pushed hard for an equalizer. Despite their best efforts, and a solid defensive performance by goalkeeper Isabella Penaranda, who made four crucial saves, St. Thomas couldn't find the back of the net again. The game ended 2-1 in favor of Southeastern.

This loss brings the Bobcats' overall record to 4-2-4 and Sun Conference record to 2-2-1. Up next, the Bobcats will face off against Warner University on Saturday, October 19th at 7 p.m. in Lake Wales, Fla.
