LAKE WALES, Fla. (October 19th, 2024) - The (RV) St. Thomas University (STU) Women's Soccer team dominated
Warner University with a decisive 4-0 victory over the Royals. The Bobcats took the lead in the first half and they kept the momentum going to secure the victory, bringing their overall record to 5-2-4 and Sun Conference record to 3-2-1.
The first half started off in a competitive manner, but the deadlock was finally broken just before halftime. The Bobcats notched 14 shots in the first half, and at the 42:41 mark they were able to find the back of the net.
Emily Rodriguez made a crucial breakthrough, scoring her second goal of the week and putting St. Thomas on the scoreboard. St. Thomas held a 1-0 lead over Warner as they entered halftime.
The Bobcats came back to the pitch with a lot of fight left.
Megan Velazquez kicked off the second half with a goal in the 58th minute of the match, extending the lead to 2-0. In the 71st minute,
Emily Sepulveda added a third goal with a well-placed assist from
Yasmeen McFayden. The final blow came in the 86th minute when
Dayanara Monetti scored the fourth and final goal, assisted by
Andrea Nava. Warner continued to look for their chances, registering 12 shots with 10 on target, but
Isabella Penaranda kept them at bay, earning 10 saves.
With this win, St. Thomas improved their record to 5-2-4 overall and 3-2-1 in conference play. St. Thomas dominated in both possession and precision, with 20 shots, with 17 on target. Despite Warner's best efforts in the second half, St. Thomas' early and sustained pressure proved too much to handle, sealing a commanding 4-0 win.
