Volleyball Blanks Ave Maria

Ave Maria, Fla. – Behind 10-kill showings from Sana Dennis, Carolina Cruz and Hope Leavy-Gaskins on Wednesday evening, the 10th-ranked St. Thomas Volleyball team cruised to a 3-0 (25-14, 25-19, 25-16) victory over Ave Maria

HOW IT HAPPENED:  

  • Set 1 –The Bobcats scored eight of the opening 10 points of the contest to quickly take an 8-2 advantage and held their opposition without a run of consecutive points until back-to-back tallies for Ave Maria made it 15-6. 

  • Set 2 – Falling behind early 5-1, the Bobcats quickly made it a one-point game behind a 3-0 run and kept the separation within two before taking the lead late at 15-14. AMU knotted the score with the ensuing point before a 4-0 Bobcats' run made it 19-15. 

  • Set 3 – Ave Maria used an early 4-0 run to take a 6-5 lead, holding onto the lead until a 5-0 STU spree created a 12-8 score. The Bobcats kept the lead for the rest of the night. 

 
NOTEWORTHY: 

  • It is the fifth-straight opponent the Bobcats have held to a hitting percentage under .100. 

  • Dennis recorded 10 kills on a .571 clip with three assisted blocks, three digs and one service ace. 

  • Cruz tied for the team-lead with 10 kills while adding six digs. 

  • Leavy-Gaskins chipped in 10 kills and four assisted blocks. 

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE: 

  • STU finished the match with 46 kills on a .260 hitting percentage versus 20 kills on a .043 clip for the host. 

  • St. Thomas served four aces while Ave Maria tallied six. 

  • The Bobcats logged 10 assisted blocks, AMU recorded three solo with six assisted. 

  • STU held a 49-29 advantage in digs.
