Volleyball Conquers Florida National

Miami Gardens, Fla. – Dipping out of Sun Conference play for the final time in the regular season on Friday afternoon, the 10t-ranked St. Thomas Volleyball Team used a balanced effort that saw six Bobcats average over a kill per set and hitting over .230 in a 3-0 (25-16, 25-16, 25-12) victory over Florida National.

HOW IT HAPPENED: 
  • Set 1 -Holding a slim 8-7 lead early in the first set, the Bobcats fired off seven-straight points to create a 15-7 advantage and kept the separation above six for the rest of the stanza.
  • Set 2 – After trading the opening 30 points of the second set for a 15-15 stalemate, STU outscored the Conquistadors 10-1 to win the frame.
  • Set 3 – The Bobcats scored the initial three points of the third set and never trailed, using an 8-0 run late in the game to boast a 20-8 score.

NOTEWORTHY:
  • The 3-0 victory is the 11th-consecutive sweep for the Bobcats.
  • Alexandra Bruno sparked the offense behind 11 kills on a .375 hitting percentage on top of seven digs, four aces and one solo block.
  • Carolina Cruz tied for the team-lead in kills with 11 while hitting .333.
  • Bianca Grassi anchored the defense behind 18 digs.
  • Payton Bertke dished out 41 assists to go with eight digs an one solo block.
