Miami Gardens, Fla. – We have postseason football on campus this weekend, with the fifth-ranked St. Thomas Football Team hosting No. 10 Georgetown College in the Second Round of the NAIA Championship on Saturday, Nov. 30 at noon while the Women's Basketball Team takes on the University of the Virgin Islands afterwards at 4 p.m.

St. Thomas (9-1) earned a first-round bye and heads into the postseason riding a six-game winning streak. The Bobcats feature a defense that ties for the most touchdowns in the NAIA with eight, helping STU average 46.2 points which ranks eighth in the country. Overall, STU averages 261.1 passing yards and 178.6 rushing yards for 439.7 total yards. 

2024 Sun Conference Running Back of the Year Rontavious Farmer leads the nation in rushing yards per game behind a 144.0 average while All-Sun Conference First Team selection Keely Watson moves the ball in the air with 2560 yards and 29 touchdowns. 2024 Sun Conference Offensive Player of the Year David Hayes has 56 catches in 2024 for 1042 yards and ties for the third-most receiving touchdowns in the NAIA with 14, followed by Khalitri Zow who has six TD catches. 

On the defensive side, 2024 Sun Conference Linebacker of the Year Kendall Wilson II records 81 tackles, 13 of them for 43 yards lost, and two interceptions. All-Conference First Team honoree Caleb Walker ties for the second-most interceptions in the NAIA with six, while 2024 Sun Conference Defensive Lineman of the Year Nicholas Engler pressures the opposing quarterback with seven sacks and six quarterback hurries. 

Georgetown (8-2) secured its 24th trip to the postseason by winning the Mid-South Conference Championship for the second-straight season. The Tigers average 342.1 yards per game, 187.6 in the air and 154.5 on the ground, while holding opponents to 17.3 points. 

2024 Mid-South Conference Offensive Player of the Year Darius Neal sparks the Tiers behind 1161 yards rushing and eight TDs. Gehrig Slunaker throws the ball for 1832 yards and 11 touchdowns, distributing the ball to Chandler Godby (2.9), Jamarcus Robinson (2.7), Dillon Warren (2.5) and Matt Miller (2.4) who all average multiple catches per game. 

2024 Mid-South Conference Defensive Player of the Year Chad Hollerman uses 79 tackles, five for loss to lead the defense while Jacob Harmon records a team-best 5.5 tackles for loss and 3.5 sacks and Justin Anderson adds three interceptions.

The Bobcats (5-2, 2-1 Sun Conference) return to the Sunshine State after concluded its trip to Indiana with a 65-60 victory over receiving votes Oakland City on Wednesday, Nov. 27. STU averages 66.6 points on a .365 field goal percentage with 46.0 rebounds, 12.7 assists, 7.7 steals and 2.9 blocks.

Sarei McGill sparks the Bobcats on both sides of the ball behind 18.1 points and 2.1 assists offensively on top of 2.0 steals on defense while adding 8.6 rebounds. Sophie Vandyke pulls down 8.9 rebounds while boasting 2.9 blocks and adding 9.4 points.

The University of the Virgin Islands kicks off its season Saturday against STU, taking on the Bobcats' Developmental Team on Friday, Nov. 29 at 2 pm before opening their 2024-25 campaign.

The Buccaneers' Ashukamayah Phillips was named to the Preseason All-Historically Black College and University Athletic Conference (HBCUAC) Second Team after leading UVI with 13.7 points last season. Mia Davis returns after recording 7.3 rebounds and 2.3 steals which both were team-highs last season to go with 7.9 points which ranks second amongst the returners.
