MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (November 30, 2024) - The St. Thomas University (STU) Women's basketball soared to victory on Saturday evening, defeating the
University of the Virgin Islands by 52 points in the home match up.
Jaliyah Weekes had 22 points for the Bobcats, leading the team in the match up against the Buccaneers, 95-43.
The Bobcats began their success from the tip-off, scoring 23 points in quarter one, and holding the Buccaneers to just six.
Katrina Litte picked up eight points while Weekes picked up six.
Sophie Vandyke notched four rebounds, beginning her double-double performance early on in the game. St. Thomas held the Virgin Islands to six points again in quarter two, while they scored 30 more points. The Bobcats led 53-12 at the half.
St. Thomas kept extending their lead in the second half, holding the Buccaneers to less than 20 points in three quarters.
Maddie Scharrenberg and Litte added another six points each to the Bobcats tally in quarter three. The Buccaneers attempted to mount a comeback in quarter four, but the Bobcats held the lead. Weekes added seven points to bring her total to 22 points and eight rebounds for the game. Vandyke added six more rebounds, putting her in double-double territory with 16 rebounds and 11 points. Litte and Scharrenberg also finished in the double digits with 19 points for Litte and 16 for Scharrenberg.
This win brings the Bobcats to a 6-2 overall record. Up next, St. Thomas will face off against Reinhardt University in Waleska, Ga. on Thursday, December 12th.Â
