MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (December 17, 2024) - The St. Thomas University (STU) Women's Basketball team took on Briar Cliff University on Tuesday evening for their first match up of the 2024 Cruzin Classic. The Bobcats were defeated by the Chargers, 78-57.

The Chargers found their groove just seconds into the game, taking the lead over the Bobcats and scoring 14 points in the first five minutes. Madison Lippy entered the game for the Bobcats, taking charge and scoring six points in their favor. Jasmine Worthy added to STU's tally, putting up six points in the first half. The Bobcats trailed 37-21 heading into the halftime break.

St. Thomas brought the power in the third quarter, trying to narrow the gap. The Bobcats scored 21 points to the Chargers' 27 in quarter three, with Maddie Scharrenberg leading the charge with six points for St. Thomas. Samatha Vales and Lippy each put up five points for the Bobcats as well. The Bobcats outscored the Chargers in quarter four, 15-14. Despite their best efforts, St. Thomas was unable to take the lead, falling to Briar Cliff 78-57.

Up next, the Bobcats will face off against Clinton College for game two of the Cruzin Classic on Wednesday, December 18th at 4 p.m.
