BABSON PARK, Fla. (February 24, 2024) - The St. Thomas University (STU) Women's Basketball team faced up against Webber International University on the road on Saturday afternoon for their final game of regular season play. The Bobcats defeated the Warriors, with a final score of 73-68, and standing in a tie for third in the Sun Conference with a record of 9-4.
Sophie Vandyke brought the heat in the first quarter of the game, scoring seven points against the Warriors. Brooke Bogatz and Bria Brown began their drives, notching three points each. The Bobcats outscored the Warriors 18-14 in quarter one.
Brown turned it up in quarter two, scoring eight points and entering double figure territory. Bogatz followed suit, adding six more points to her tally. The Bobcats put up 22 points in the second quarter, holding the Warriors to only nine points. Vandyke continued to stand out on the court, notching five rebounds in the second. St. Thomas led 40-23 heading into the halftime break.
The Warriors attempted to narrow the gap in the third quarter, outscoring the Bobcats 26-15. Bogatz put up seven points, going 100% from the field and the free throw line. Despite their attempts, the Bobcats still led Webber heading into the final quarter, 55-49.
The final quarter saw a close game, but even as the Warriors inched towards the lead, the Bobcats were able to keep it for the duration of the fourth quarter. Vandyke added four more points, bringing her to double figures with 15 points and eight rebounds. Brown and Franco added six points apiece, Brown finishing the game with 17 points. Bogatz put up two good free throws, solidifying her lead of 18 points for the game. The Bobcats ultimately defeated the Warriors, 73-68.
