Seventh Inning Rally Gives STU the Victory Over LCU

STERLINGTON, La. (February 8, 2024) – The St. Thomas University (STU) Baseball team defeated the Louisiana Christian Wildcats 8-5 in the first game of the Cajun Collision, improving to 5-3. Manuel DeGracia earned the win for the Bobcats on the mound, and Christopher Estradas' stellar day at the plate helped STU secure the victory.
 
2nd Inning
  • Christopher Estrada got the inning started with a single.
  • Robin Fernandez got on base with a walk.
  • Alan Caretta hit one to the shortstop which resulted in an error, allowing Estrada to score. Bobcats 1-0
  • Fernandez worked his way to third and after a failed pick off attempt to second, Fernandez was able to score. Bobcats 2-0
3rd Inning
  • Kendry Noriega got it going with a single to left center.
  • Angelo Piloto stepped into box right after and drilled one to center field. Bobcats 4-0
  • STU went back to back as Christopher Estrada hit a homer to left field. Bobcats 5-0
4th Inning
  • The Wildcats picked up two runs in the bottom of the fourth. Bobcats 5-2
5th Inning
  • Off a two RBI triple, LCU made it a one run game in the bottom of the fifth. Bobcats 5-4
6th Inning
  • With the STU bats falling asleep for a bit, the Wildcats took advantage and tied the game at five in the bottom of the sixth.
7th Inning
  • With one out, Chris Schoeller hit a triple to center field.
  • Kendry Noriega hit a sacrifice fly to bring Schoeller in to give the Bobcats the lead back. Bobcats 6-5
  • Angelo Piloto and Christopher Estrada hit back to back singles.
  • Robin Fernandez came up clutch and hit a double to score two Bobcats. Bobcats 8-5
  • This being a seven inning ballgame, after giving up a walk to start the bottom of the seventh Manuel DeGracia struck out three in a row to win the game.
