Bobcats Drop Contest to Fire in Sun Conference Semifinals

LAKELAND, Fla. (March 1, 2024) - The St. Thomas University (STU) Women's Basketball team fell to the Southeastern University in the Sun Conference Semifinals on Friday evening. The Bobcats advanced after defeating Webber International University, but their time in the tournament comes to a close with their 87-63 loss against the Fire. 

The Bobcats kept it close in the first quarter, down only two points as the buzzer sounded. Marta Franco led the charge in the first half, scoring five points in quarter one and five in quarter two, bringing her total to 10 for the half. Brooke Bogatz followed Franco's lead with six points in the first quarter and three in the second, tallying a total of nine points for the half. The score was 38-26 in favor of the Fire heading into the halftime break.  

Southeastern kept the lead into the second half, holding the Bobcats to only 13 points in the third quarter. Sophie Vandyke and Camilla Flefil put up 11 of the 13 points, Vandyke with six and Flefil with five. The Bobcats attempted to narrow the gap in quarter four, scoring 20 points to the Fire's 24. Franco put up another nine points, bringing her total for 19 points for the game. Flefil added five more in quarter four, finishing in the double figures with 10 points. Ultimately, the Fire emerged victorious, defeating the Bobcats 87-63.
