Miami Gardens, Fla. – Hosting their second nationally-ranked team in as many home games on Saturday afternoon, the 19 ranked St. Thomas volleyball team fended off eighth-ranked Park University in a 3-1 (29-27, 21-25, 25-23, 28-26) triumph to extend their season-opening win streak to 10 games.

HOW IT HAPPENED (GAME 1):
- Set 1 -After splitting the opening 30 points of the contest, STU used a 3-0 spree to pull ahead 18-15. The Pirates rallied to even the score at 23-all, forcing set point at 26-25 and 27-26 before St. Thomas closed the first set with three-straight points.
- Set 2 – Park took the lead over STU midway through the frame at 15-13 behind a 4-0 run and maintained the advantage for the rest of the frame.
- Set 3 – Trailing early 10-7, the Bobcats knotted the score behind a 3-0 rally before taking the lead at 17-15 off another three-point spree. The Pirates evened the score at 18-18 before STU responded with back-to-back points and held the visitors without a run of consecutive points for the rest of the stanza to take a 2-1 overall lead.
- Set 4 – Facing a late 19-15 deficit, STU quickly made it a one-point game off a 3-0 rally before Park extended their lead back to three at 23-20. The Bobcats tied the score at 23-23, fending off set Park's set point at 24-23 and 25-24 before St. Thomas managed to close out the match.
NOTEWORTHY:
- The 10-0 start matches the best start in program history, originally set in 2016.
- Tayla Barnes boasted 18 kills on a .483 hitting percentage with three assisted blocks and one solo block.
- Maria Eduarda Ferreira Ramos tied for the team lead with 18 kills.
- Bianca Grassi anchored the defense behind 26 digs.
- Payton Bertke dished out a career-high 61 assists.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
- STU finished the match with 68 kills on a .220 hitting percentage versus 56 kills on a .213 clip for the Pirates.
- St. Thomas served three aces while Park tallied six.
