Miami Gardens, Fla. – Highlighted by a historic sweep, five St. Thomas student-athletes were recognized by the Sun Conference on Monday with
Roger Reyes and
Isabella Marty taking both Runner of the Week nods while
Payton Bertke earned her fifth-straight Setter of the Week accolade and
Kendall Wilson II and
Zachary Alvarez received the Football Defensive and Special Team Player of the Week selection.
Reyes led the Men's Cross Country team to its second-straight first-place finish behind a 19:26.70 run at the Bobcat Open 6K that earned him the gold medal for the second time this season. On the women's side of the race, Marty crossed the finish line third in their 6K with a 25:28.79 run. It is the first time in program history that the cross country team has swept the Sun Conference weekly awards in back-to-back weeks.
Bertke earns her fifth-straight Setter of the Week nod after filling out the stat sheet behind 32 assists, five kills, three digs, one assisted block and one service ace in a 3-0 rout of Florida Memorial. Her 10.93 assists ranks fifth within the NAIA. It is the second-straight season that a setter from the Sun Conference earned the recognition in five-consecutive weeks.
Wilson II sparked the defense for the sixth-ranked Football Team, boasting six tackles with one pick-six and one forced fumble during the Bobcats' 45-17 victory over Florida Memorial. Alvarez connected on every kick he took on Saturday, hitting an 18 yard field goal and going 5-5 on PATs.
