AVE MARIA, Fla. (January 18, 2025) - The St. Thomas University (STU) Women's Basketball team traveled to Ave Maria University on Saturday to face off against the Gyrenes in a 2:00 p.m. match up. The Bobcats, led by
Joey Delancy and
Amber Louis, managed to mount a comeback after being down 14 points, defeating the Gyrenes 68-65.
The game was a consistent battle from the tip, with the Bobcats trailing the Gyrenes at the end of quarter one.
Joey Delancy and
Madison Lippy led the charge in the first with three points each and four rebounds from Lippy. Delancy continued to add to her tally in quarter two, putting up five points, while
Amber Louis entered the game and record seven points of her own.
Maddie Scharrenberg and
Morgan Taylor also had impressive performances in the second quarter, Scharrenberg with five rebounds and Taylor with six points. The Bobcats outscored the Gyrenes 20-19 in the second, but remained down by three heading into the intermission, 35-32.
The Bobcats struggled in the third quarter, recording only 10 points to the Gyrenes 18. Lippy and Louis each added three points, bringing Louis to double figures. The Bobcats were down 53-42 heading into the final quarter. St. Thomas mounted an impressive comeback in the fourth quarter, holding Ave Maria to only 12 points while they picked up 26. Delancy added nine points, bringing her total to 17 for the game. Louis put up five more points while Scharrenberg added six points, bringing Louis to 15 and Scharrenberg to 10 for the match up. Lippy also added four points to her tally, officially notching a double-double performance with 10 points and 10 rebounds. The Bobcats ultimately defeated the Gyrenes after a tough contest, 68-65.
