MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (January 22, 2025) - The St. Thomas University (STU) Women's Basketball picked up their seventh victory of the new year on Wednesday evening against
New College of Florida. The Bobcats defeated the Mighty Banyans 77-58, with
Sophie Vandyke leading the squad with 22 points.
The Bobcats were the first on the board in the match up,
Maddie Scharrenberg and
Sophie Vandyke scoring the first four points and each picking up five rebounds. St. Thomas held the Mighty Banyans off for the first five minutes of the game. Scharrenberg led with 10 points in the first, followed by Vandyke with four. The Bobcats led 20-9 heading into the second quarter.
Amber Louis added five points for the Bobcats in the second, bringing her total to eight for the half. The Bobcats led by 20 points heading into the halftime break, 39-19.
St. Thomas kept it up in quarter three, Vandyke leading the charge with eight points, and
Samantha Vales following with seven.
Joey Delancy also added a handful of points (5) to the Bobcats tally and picked four rebounds in the quarter while Scharrenberg added four more points to bring her total to 18. STU outscored New College 24-15 in the third. Although the Mighty Banyans fought back in the final quarter, outscoring the Bobcats 24-14, St. Thomas maintained the lead. Vandyke had another impressive quarter with seven more points and a block. Louis also added three points to bring her total to 11. The Bobcats maintained the lead for the duration of the match up, capitalizing on fast-breaks and New College turnovers. They ultimately defeated the Mighty Banyans 77-58.
