Women's Basketball Falls to Keiser in Home Battle

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (January 15, 2025) - The St. Thomas University (STU) Women's Basketball team hosted Keiser University on Saturday afternoon for their second meeting of the season. The Bobcats fell to the Seahawks in the closely contest match up, 64-70, bringing their Sun Conference record to 7-2.

From the tip, it was clear both teams were ready for battle. The Bobcats came out with energy, securing a slim 9-8 lead in the first quarter. Maddie Scharrenberg was on fire early, recording seven points and three rebounds in the first quarter. In quarter two, Madison Lippy had her time to shine, knocking down 4-6 shots from the field, picking up 10 points. She finished the game with a team-high 22 points. Sophie Vandyke added four points and three blocks in the second. The Bobcats outscore the Seahawks 24-16 in quarter two, leading 33-24 at halftime.

The Seahawks managed to mount a comeback in the third, scoring 26 compared to St. Thomas's 14. Samantha Vales and Jasmine Worthy contributed eight points for the Bobcats, each notching four. The Seahawks led 59-47 going into the final quarter.

St. Thomas showed resilience in the fourth quarter, Lippy putting up nine points while Worthy added six. The Bobcats went on to score 17 points, but it wasn't enough to overcome Keiser's late-game surge. STU ultimately fell, 64-70 to the Seahawks, bringing their overall record to 13-6 and conference record to 7-2.

Up next, the Bobcats will travel to Babson Park, Fla. to face off against Webber International University on Wednesday, January 29th at 5:30 p.m.
