MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (January 7, 2024) - The St. Thomas University (STU) Women's Basketball team was on fire on Tuesday evening against Florida National University, defeating the Conquistadors 82-45. Everyone on the Bobcats' squad was on the board, with four players in the double digits, including
Jasmine Worthy who led the squad once again with a double-double performance.
The Conquistadors started off the match strong, holding the Bobcats off for the first five minutes of the match up.
Joey Delancy put the Bobcats on the board, beginning their scoring run. Worthy led in quarter one with eight points, scoring half of the Bobcats points in the quarter. STU led 16-11 heading into quarter two. Bobcats maintained the lead heading into the halftime break, scoring 21 points to the Conquistadors' 16.
Sophie Vandyke and
Jaliyah Weekes each picked up six points for STU in quarter two.
The Fire stayed lit in quarter three,
Joey Delancy leading the Bobcats with eight points, bringing her into double-digit territory. The Bobcats led by 30 points heading into the final quarter, scoring 26 points in the third and holding FNU to only eight points. St. Thomas extended their lead in the final quarter, leading by 43 points with seven minutes to spare. Worthy added another seven points to her tally, finishing the match up with 19 points and 11 rebounds, notching another double-double performance. Vandyke and Delancy each finished with nine rebounds and 10 points for the Bobcats while
Katrina Litte also finished with 10 points and five rebounds. This win brings the Bobcats' overall record to 9-5.
