HISTORY IN THE GARDENS! Women's Volleyball Breaks NAIA Record In 3-0 Win

Miami Gardens, Fla. – In front of a National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Women's Volleyball Regular Season Attendance Record crowd of 2,307 fans on Saturday afternoon, the 14th ranked St. Thomas University swept visiting New College of Florida (25-17, 25-19, 25-17).

HOW IT HAPPENED: 
  • The Bobcats scored the opening point of the contest, and seven of the initial 10, to quickly create a 7-3 lead while holding the Mighty Banyan without a run of consecutive points until a late 3-0 run made it 20-13.
  • STU responded to a NCF tally to start the second set with back-to-back points and kept the lead for the duration of the second stanza.
  • Trailing midway through the third set 11-10, the Bobcats used a 4-0 run to take a 14-11 lead and held their opposition without a run of consecutive points until a 3-0 rally while facing match point made it 24-17.
NOTEWORTHY:
  • Tayla Barnes sparked the Bobcats behind nine kills, four solo blocks and three assisted.
  • Payton Bertke dished out 27 assists alongside five kills and four digs.
  • Carolina Cruz added 10 digs.
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
  • The Bobcats ended the match with 35 kills on a .278 hitting percentage, New College of Florida tallied 36 on a .108 clip.
  • STU served seven aces while the visitor logged four
  • St. Thomas recorded five solo blocks and eight assisted blocks versus one solo and two assisted for NCF.
  • Both sides recorded 35 digs.
