Mlyakova And Bertke See Double In Women's Volleyball's 3-1 Victory Over Florida College

TEMPLE TERRACE, Fla. – Dipping out of Sun Conference play on Friday evening, the 12th ranked St. Thomas University Women's Volleyball team held Florida College to a negative hitting percentage in the final set to fend off the host's comeback attempt in a 3-1 (28-26, 26-24, 23-25, 25-17) victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED:  

  • Trailing early in the first set at 10-3, the Bobcats rallied to knot the score at 11 all before taking the lead at 13-12. The two sides traded the ensuing 22 points to give the Bobcats set point at 24-23, taking the initial game at 28-26. 

  • Florida College used an early 5-0 run to take a 12-8 lead in the second set, keeping the advantage until a 6-0 rally against four set points to take the second stanza 26-24. 

  • After trading the opening 44 points of the third set, Florida College scored back-to-back points to take set point at 24-22 before forcing a fourth set with a 25-23 decision. 

  • The Bobcats scored six of the opening 10 points to hold a 6-4 lead and kept the advantage for the rest of the match. 

NOTEWORTHY: 

  • Raya Mlyakova led the Bobcats behind 16 kills and 14 digs for a double double. 

  • Ranya Mehta boasted one solo block and six assisted. 

  • Payton Bertke dished out 42 assists alongside 12 digs for a double double. 

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE: 

  • The Bobcats ended the match with 56 kills on a .200 hitting percentage, FC tallied 44 on a 063 clip. 

  • STU served four aces while the host logged nine. 

  • St. Thomas recorded two solo blocks and 18 assisted blocks versus six assisted and fouor assisted for Florida College. 

  • The Bobcats held a 68-50 advantage in digs.
