Women's Basketball Fends Off Webber International In 73-68 Road Victory

Babson Park, Fla. – With four Bobcats ending Wednesday evening's Sun Conference contest with double-digit points, the St. Thomas University Women's Basketball Team took the lead midway through the first quarter at Webber International and kept the lead for the rest of their 73-69 victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED: 

  • STU scored the opening basket of the game via a triple and never trailed by more than two in the first quarter, using a 10-0 run midway through the frame to create a 16-8 lead. 

  • The Bobcats withstood a 9-0 Webber run in the second quarter that knotted the score at 27-all behind a layup and three pointer back-to-back, holding the host to one point over the final five minutes of the half to head into the break leading 32-28. 

  • Holding their opposition without a run greater than four for the entire fourth quarter, the Bobcats created a double-digit lead at 49-39 and went into the final 10 minutes holding a 57-45 advantage. 

  • Still holding on to their double-digit lead at 71-61 with 1:54 remaining in the game, STU fended off a Webber rally that got them within five at 71-66 before ending the spree with a jump shot.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE: 

  • STU went 26-63 from the field, 8-27 from beyond the arc and 15-20 from the free throw line. Webber went 24-66, 4-17 from three-point range and 16-30 from the free throw line. 

  • St. Thomas held a 49-34 advantage in rebounds. 

  • The Bobcats forced 16 turnovers, resulting in 17 points. The host scored 23 points off 25 turnovers. 

  • STU recorded 12 steals and one block versus 13 steals and two blocks for the Warriors.
