Miami Gardens, Fla. – Led by a 20-point effort from
Jaliyah Weekes on Tuesday evening, the St. Thomas University Women's Basketball Team fended off visiting Florida National University for a 74-58 victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- After splitting the initial eight points of the contest, the Bobcats responded to a FNU layup with a 7-0 run to boast an 11-6 advantage with 6:44 left in the first quarter. STU pushed their lead up to seven at 15-8 before a 5-0 rally by the visitors made it a one-possession game at 15-13 with 2:50 remaining in the quarter. The Bobcats connected on three free throws to extend their lead while Florida National made a jumper to create an 18-15 score.
- Following a pair of Conquistador free throws to start the second quarter, the Bobcats used a 6-0 run to take a 24-17 lead with 6:41 left in the half. The visitors held STU without a run of consecutive baskets for the rest of the half, while only managing a 4-0 run of their own, to create a 35-30 halftime score.
- STU started the second half with an 8-0 run to create a double-digit lead at 43-30, holding their opposition without a run of consecutive baskets until back-to-back layups to end the quarter made it 59-48.
- FNU cut into the deficit behind a 9-2 start to the fourth quarter before a pair of Bobcats' triples sandwiching a layup by the visitors made it 67-58 with STU keeping their opposition off the scoreboard for the final five minutes of the game to secure the victory.
NOTEWORTHY:
- Weekes added seven rebounds and three steals to her game-high 20 points.
- Isabella Rivera went 6-9 from the field and 5-6 from the free throw line for 18 points on top of eight boards.
- Ja'Nya Ferguson pulled down a game-high 11 rebounds.
- Morgan Taylor dished out four assists on top of 10 rebounds.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
- STU went 24-69 from the field, 8-27 from beyond the arc and 18-30 from the free throw line. FNU went 22-59, 3-14 from three-point range and 11-14 from the free throw line.
- St. Thomas held a 58-32 advantage in rebounds.
- The Bobcats forced 16 turnovers, resulting in 14 points. The visitors scored 12 points off 16 turnovers.
- STU recorded 11 steals and one block versus 10 steals and four blocks for the Conquistadors.
