Ezcurra And Penaranda Honored By Sun Conference With Rookie Of The Year And Golden Glove Awards

Miami Gardens – After leading the St. Thomas University Women's Soccer team on their respective sides of the pitch, the Sun Conference crowned Julia Ezcurra as the league's Rookie of the Year while Isabella Penaranda received the Golden Gloves award.

Ezcurra sparked the Bobcats' offense in her first season behind eight goals and three assists for 19 points which ties for eighth in the conference. She powered STU to a victory against the New College of Florida on Sept. 16 behind two goals and one assist before contributing a goal and assist against Webber International on Oct. 8.

The Bobcats boast one of the top defenses in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) allowing just 11 goals all season which tied for 12th in the country and first in the Sun Conference. With Penaranda protecting the goal, the Bobcats produced 10 shutouts with her being a part of nine. She recorded 59 saves during the regular season on a .855 percentage while holding a 0.67 goals allowed average.

She enters her final postseason with the Bobcats as a two-time All-Sun Conference honoree, sporting a 0.99 goals allowed average and a .801 save percentage alongside a  20-17-12 record with 28 shutouts.
 
The Bobcats host Florida Memorial in the opening round of the 2025 Sun Conference Tournament on Wednesday, Oct. 5 with kickoff slated for 7:00 p.m.
