Worthy and Lippy Lead Bobcats to Victory Over Mariners

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (February 1, 2025) - The St. Thomas University (STU) Women's Basketball team faced off against College of Coastal Georgia on Saturday afternoon, defeating them 68-62 with Madison Lippy and Jasmine Worthy leading the charge. This victory puts the Bobcats in a three-way tie for first in the Sun Conference with a record of 9-2.

St. Thomas had a solid first quarter, leading by 10 at the quarter, 21-11. STU went 60% from the field in the first, with Joey Delancy, Jaliyah Weekes, and Jasmine Worthy each putting up four points. The Bobcats continued to shine in quarter two, outscoring the Mariners 19-13. Madison Lippy scored six points in the second, while Weekes, Worthy and Delancy each added another four. The Bobcats continued to dominate until the end of the first half, leading against the Mariners 40-24. 

Coastal Georgia managed to make a comeback after the halftime break, narrowing the gap in quarter three holding the Bobcats to only 10 points. Madison Lippy scored six points worth of free throws for St. Thomas, going 100% from the line. STU led by only six points heading into the final quarter. It was neck-and-neck in quarter four, each team putting up 18 points. Worthy continued her stellar performance, adding another six points to finish the game with 18 and five rebounds for a total of nine. Lippy also added three points, finishing with 17 in the match up. The Bobcats maintained their lead on the Mariners, finishing the game with a score of 68-62. 

This win brings the Bobcats to an overall record of 15-6 and Sun Conference record of 9-2. St. Thomas is currently tied for first in the conference alongside Southeastern University and Florida Memorial University. Up next, the Bobcats will travel to Lakeland, Fla. to face off against the Fire on Wednesday, February 5th at 5:30 p.m.
