Bobcats Fall to (RV) Fire in Lakeland

LAKELAND, Fla. (February 5, 2025) - The St. Thomas University (STU) Women's Basketball team faced off against the (RV) Southeastern University Fire on Wednesday evening in the Furnace. The Bobcats fell to the Fire in the match up, 81-66, bringing them to second place in Sun Conference standings with a record of 9-3. 

The game was close from the tip, with St. Thomas scoring 10 points to Southeastern's 12. The Fire began to take off in the second, outscoring the Bobcats 22-13 in the quarter. Jaliyah Weekes picked up six points in the second quarter, leading the charge. Maddie Scharrenberg followed close behind, with five points at the end of the first half. Jasmine Worthy began her run in the second picking up four points and three rebounds. St. Thomas was down eight heading into the break, 34-26. 

The Bobcats kept it close in quarter three, putting up 15 points to the Fire's 20. Worthy added another five points while Joey Delancy and Sophie Vandyke picked up three apiece. St. Thomas never lost the fight, outscoring Southeastern in the final quarter 28-27. The Bobcats capitalized on free throws in quarter four, going 10-14 from the line. Scharrenberg notched an impressive 11 points in the quarter, finishing the game with 16. Morgan Taylor also added five points in favor of STU while Weekes and Katrina Litte put up three each. The Bobcats were unable to take the lead, falling to the Fire 81-66.

Up next, the Bobcats will head to Lake Wales, Fla. on Wednesday, February 12th to face off against Warner University at 5:30 p.m.
