MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (February 20, 2025) - The #19 St. Thomas University (STU) Softball team hosted
Columbia International University on Thursday evening for the first two games of four. The Bobcats defeated the Rams, 3-0 in game one and thanks to a late-game surge in game two, the Bobcats once again kept their undefeated streak alive with a final score of 3-2.
Game One: St. Thomas 3, Columbia International 0
- The Bobcats were on top from their first set of at-bats. Anna Toon singled and advanced to second, advancing Isabella Andujar to third and bringing home Mya Achenbach.
- In the second inning, the Bobcats capitalized on an error, with Achenbach reaching first on an error by the first baseman, scoring Kaitlynn Martinez to make the score 2-0.
- The Bobcats locked in the win in the bottom of the fourth when Jade Fayad's fly ball to right field propeled Martinez to second base after the tag, advanced Sydnee Fordham to third, and brought Maggie Kirk home.
- Isabella Andujar had a standout performance in the game, recording two doubles.Â
- Gabby Gilbert had a great game in the field, recording eight putouts.
- Anna Toon earned the win against the Rams pitching 6.1 and four strikeouts in the game.
Game Two: St. Thomas 3, Columbia International 2
- The Rams were the first to get on the board in the first inning, scoring on a STU error. They added a second run in the second inning, holding that lead until the bottom of the fifth.
- St. Thomas tied it up in the fifth inning, starting with a double from Kaitlynn Martinez to right center, scoring Emma Edwards and advancing to third base. Alahnis Berrios then singled to right field, bringing Martinez home to make the score 2-2.
- The Bobcats secured the win in the bottom of the seventh with a double from Mya Achenbach that brought home Martinez to make the score 3-2.
- Anna Toon earned the win for this match up, pitching two innings and notching five strikeouts, bringing her record to 5-0
- The Bobcats capitalized on baserunning against the Rams, with a stolen base from Martinez, Ana Mendieta, and Isabella Andujar.
- STU ultimately defeated CIU 3-2.
Up next, the Bobcats will host Columbia International University for another double header on Saturday, February 22nd at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.
