MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (February 22, 2025) - The #19 St. Thomas University (STU) Softball team picked up two more victories over Columbia International University on Saturday, defeating them in a shutout 10-0 and 9-1 in the second game.
Kaitlynn Martinez kicked off the meetings with a home run for the Bobcats, followed by
Anna Toon and
Bianca Palacios who each added a homer in game two.
Game One: St. Thomas 10, Columbia International 0:
- Martinez kicked off the game hot for the Bobcats with a homer to left field.
- In the second, Sydnee Fordham had a sacrifice fly ot left field, advancing Natalie Kopicova to second. Palacios was out at third, but Gabriella Gilbert made it home. Victoria Navarro then singled to left field scoring Kopicova.
- The Bobcats added seven points in the bottom of the fourth with runs from Maggie Kirk, Kopicova, Gilbert, Fordham, Mya Achenbach, Isabella Andujar, and Martinez who scored the 10th run.
- Anna Toon earned the victory for game one, bringing her record to 6-0. Toon picked up five strikeouts, allowing no runs and only two hits.
Game Two: St. Thomas 9, Columbia International 1:
- Game two also started with a homer, with Toon homering to center field, notching 3 RBIs as she brought in Andujar and Achenbach to put three on the board.
- The Bobcats added another in the first, when Bre'Asia Thomas had a sacrifice fly to center, bringing home Gilbert.
- A few errors in the game allowed Martinez and Achenbach to add to the tally, the Bobcats holding a 6-0 lead by the end of the fourth.
- Columbia International responded with a run in the fifth inning.
- St. Thomas closed out the game with a home run from Palacios and a double from Martinez which brought home Kirk and Alahnis Berrios.
- Victoria Navarro earned the win for game two, bringing her record to 1-0 this season.Â
Up next, the Bobcats will remain at home for a meeting against University of Fort Lauderdale on Monday, February 24th at 4 and 6Â p.m.
